RECTOR MAJOR for the1st TIME @ DBTC

Updated: Sep 23, 2019

The 7th of September 2019 was a red-letter day in the annals of Don Bosco Theologate for it received the Rector Major for the first time! In Becchi Don Bosco, the Rector Major was given a warm welcome and felicitated by Fr. Bellarmine, the Rector. While addressing the members of the community, he expressed his desire and interest in making his visit to all the formation houses. In that line he also mentioned about meeting 13,000 Salesians so far around the world working in various provinces; adding to it, he said that it was important for him to meet confreres so that he could transmit Don Bosco’s Vision to them.

He also reminded the Salesians in DBTC that we are at the threshold of the 28th General Chapter which had been planned to deal with the identity profile of Salesians. He said that initial formation is vital in every Salesian’s life and that ongoing formation sustains the initial formation. He expressed that there was one thought resounding in his heart and mind always about what kind of Salesians we need to be. The formation we receive should lead us to raise our hearts towards the poor and more towards the heart which Don Bosco himself had. He recommended that we need to stay close to God for only He would help us at the time of need.

The Rector Major then recapitulated that the call for a Salesian is a call to give totally towards others in service. He also shared the information which Pope Francis gave to all the leaders of the male congregations: that is to be mindful of clericalism and the tendency to move away from God. He added that there is a cry from all youngsters around the world that they expect a Salesian to be available, to accompany and to be present. At the end of the meeting, the Rector Major released “Parisal” a theology-based magazine, compiled by the Students of Theology themselves. He then blessed the Foundation Stone for the new academic block. The Rector Major then celebrated the Eucharist as it “is the source and summit” of life (Lumen Gentium 11). He interceded for the Province that our lives as Sons of Don Bosco be woven into one garment that encompasses the world in the holiness of Christ.
